Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean, southeast of India. The capital is Colombo, but cities like Kandy, Galle, and Jaffna are also significant.

The history of Sri Lanka is rich and diverse, shaped by the influences of the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. After gaining independence in 1948, the country experienced a lengthy civil war, which ended in 2009.

The economy includes tea and spice exports, tourism, the garment industry, and agriculture. Sri Lanka is particularly known for its beautiful beaches, historic sites like the Sigiriya rock fortress and the ancient city of Anuradhapura, as well as its rich wildlife.

Sri Lankan cuisine is delicious and diverse, with dishes such as rice and curry, hoppers, kottu, and fresh seafood.

Sri Lanka’s natural beauty includes the Sinharaja rainforest, Yala National Park, and the tea plantations in the mountains.
